Creative Juices Flowing on the Daily
I completed 3 daily creates this week, a joy like always! In 2 out of 3 of my Daily Creates, I actually got to put into use all the design conceptss I learned about over the week!
Getting Started
So before I leaped into designing I had to figure out what the heck I am supposed to be doing. So I began by checking out the Design Resource Page and reading the material for this week along with the two videos. I enjoyed the videos, but I gained more from the readings. I learned a lot from this week’s readings:
1. The Vignelli Canon by Massimo Vignelli
2. A Kid’s Guide to Graphic Design by Iconic Designer Chip Kidd written by Maria Popova.
3. The Art of Movie Posters: View Online 40,000+ Movie Posters & Learn How They’re Made by Open Culture

After getting situated with this week’s design materials, I wrote a reflection on everything I’ve learned.

Now, it was time to put in the work! I had to put into work all the things I had learned! This is the fun part. I began by doing a design blitz. As I went about my week, the task was to take pictures of objects that I see that illustrate four out of ten design concepts: color, typography, metaphors/symbols, minimalism & use of space, form/function/message, balance, rhythm, proportion, dominance, and unity. I took 6 pictures throughout the week and I posted them on my Instagram. In this blog post below you can find what I have done for my Design Blitz along with what a discussion of the concepts I saw illustrated.
Don’t Mind Me, Just Some More Designing!
I completed 3 design assignments this week! The first design was to design a body image poster. Next, I completed a contradicting design assignment. Lastly, I designed a motivational poster. I enjoyed designing. The best part was scavenging for an image that I wanted to use, and selecting visual aids, borders, fonts, and wording to create the final product.
I connected my first two assignments to the Joy of Painting!
Another week of learning more skills complete! I feel like every week I’m collecting new pokemon cards. Every week I learn a new skill. Lookin back to the first day of this class I have learn so much!
